Is it going to be the Year of Flutter?
Just came back from Google Developer Experts Summit in Berlin and couldn't be more excited about the future of Flutter. I was following Flutter Forward news and spend wonderful time with fellow GDEs.
In this issue I won’t do a full summary of all the cool changes and sneak peeks that came with Flutter 3.7, but rather share my good emotions. Hope you’ll follow along 😀
Visible
It’s been busy few months for me while building Visible.
We onboarded 15 000 users in just 2 months, and spent most of this time preparing to a big next release soon™️. The feedback we’ve received from our users has been stellar and frankly I’ve never been more satisfied with my job. Building a product that matters to so many people is something I wish everyone would experience.
As you may expect Visible is built with Flutter and I hope to share more about the underlying setup later in the year. We’ve built something really cool and it would be a waste not to talk about it.
In the meantime my good friend Bart who works at Buzz (another cool startup using Flutter) shared some of his cool findings about social authentication.
Flutter Forward
If you follow anything about Flutter online you’ve definitely seen that this week there was a major event: Flutter Forward conference in Nairobi, Kenya. As almost every year the Flutter team and community folks shared a gazillion updates about Flutter, Dart, app performance, design, web, Material, and especially future of Flutter.
One thing that you might have missed is a set of community-prepared videos covering various topics that couldn’t fit in a keynote, but are definitely worth checking out in your spare time (or education time if you wish).
The full playlist is here, but I’d like to put a shameless plug with a video recorded by me and Felix where we’ve built simple flame game* backed by Dart Frog websockets.
GDE Summit
Some of you probably know about Google Developer Experts. There’s over a 1000 folks in the dev community that volunteer in various ways — promote, educate, play with Google software like Firebase, Flutter, Android, Earth Engine (that’s a real thing btw), and many more. This week I was at the Experts Summit Europe in Berlin and couldn’t be more happy to spend this time with hundreds of other Europe-based geeks like me.
I cannot say much, but there’s definitely plenty of cool stuff incoming in 2023. Not only Flutter is going to shine this year 🤓
Wrap up
There’s so much I can fit in a post like this, but one thing I wanted to share with you is that despite all the crazy stuff happening in the world right now I find a lot of hope in software community. If you have a chance, maybe it’s worth checking out a local chapter or start your own?
Hugs,
Dom
* calling this a game is a bit of a stretch, but we played it, so it must be a game, right?
